The Sun : EASTENDERS star Cheryl Fergison is marrying the Moroccan toyboy she met on the net - after a whirlwind romance. Cheryl, 46 - Heather Trott in the soap - met penniless Yassim al-Jemoni, 21 years her junior, earlier this year. But should the alarm bells be ringing?
Here, Moroccan-born Hassan, 49 - who married for a passport - explains his experience of marrying an older British woman. WHEN Hassan got married, the last thing on his mind was romance. He said: "On my wedding day I wasn't thinking about love. I looked at my bride and just thought, 'Hurry up and sign, will you.' When she did I was over the moon."Not because I was married but because her name in the box had just given me my freedom in this country."
He was 21 when he came to Britain on a six-month student visa and got married to a much older British woman with one intention - getting a passport. He said: "The man wants a passport and the woman wants a good-looking, exotic young man to show off to their friends. "It's an unspoken business arrangement, I've been there and done that. "But before people judge him they should ask themselves, if they were living in poverty and the chance to make a life for themselves came along, wouldn't they take it too?
The women were old and ugly and wanted to impress their mates "Cheryl is not a stupid woman. She is a highly paid actress and, if she thinks about it properly, could probably work out that this may not be about true love." Hassan added: "I hope people will not condemn people like me as gold-diggers."I would never refuse her before the wedding - it was too risky - but afterwards I made excuses.
"Taking a foreign bride for a passport is such a common thing in our culture, everyone knows there are methods to speed things along a bit. I laughed when I read this guy proposed to Cheryl the second time they met. |
